venus didn't do well at all, being knocked out of the australian open in the first round by bulgaria's tszvetana pironhova.
sister serena had her own struggles.
see "venus william ousted in first round" at.
Are those 2 girls really still witnesses?
I read in one of those celebrity mags (hey my husband brings them home from work) that one of them celebrated her brithday. Pictures of her with a cake and all.
Besides, I can see the elders yanking them in the backroom for their clothing on the courts. They're getting quite the reputation.

we all know that the nwt is a truly lousy version if the bible.
when they started using the bible why did they not add their own writings.
i know they use the wt and other books but i mean, in the lines like the mormans did.
Great point.
A few months ago when I was trying to compile my letter, I was sifting through some info that I'd printed on the early church fathers.
The WTS teaches that they Did Not believe in the various doctrines of the soul, trinity etc.
When I went to read what exactly the early church fathers believed, it contradicted everything the WTS teaches. Then I started thinking like you, just about word for word. And it is a matter of degree. The Catholics have a "worse" record then the witnesses.
What got me, was the child abuse thing. They go off on the Catholics for covering up sin. Ha! That hypocrisy was huge for me.

wow!
i just found this website and excitedly registered as i am df'd, and missing my family terribly.... i was hopeful that i might find a place to talk, share concerns and maybe vent occasionally.
i'm finding as i read however, that some people are incredibly angry and bitter and some of the comments seem mean and hurtful.
I was just talking to some others about the bitterness and anger.
I think the others are right, it really depends on your personal experience.
I also think that sometimes, those that don't start off bitter, but continue searching for what the truth really is about the truth, can become angry and bitter, as they realize the impact the Organization has had on their lives.
I'm certainly not trying to encourage that kind of emotion, but trying to explain why I think there is so much bitterness.
A person should not have to choose between their personal beliefs, whatever that ends up being and their famiy.
Me? Both. Angry and Sad. Trying not to hate, but the more I learn about the Organization, the angrier I get. Sad because there are many that I care about that are In.

for anyone facing my situation i recommend not being scared.
it is not money i am after, what it would be good to achieve is make the wts so scared of publically announcing anyone that they end up changing their d/f policy.. this is what happened.
for anyone facing my situation i recommend not being scared.
It is perfectly clear that Holy Spirit does not direct the Watchtower Society, as shown by ongoing major change to doctrine. Nor does it direct the elders involved in judicial committees. If you believed that it did in regards to disfellowshipping me the elders manual would not need to give the option of an appeal. You must also be aware that Holy Spirit does not direct the Service Department at Bethel. BR OLDTIMER was in the Service Department and in MY OLD congregation and so involved in appointing ..... as an elder in Bradbury congregation whilst I was there. That was despite ... carrying on a seven year affair at the time of his appointment with his wife’s best friend. Clearly it is an organisation led by men. Please do not take it upon yourselves to judge me and affect the relationship I have with my extended family for the remainder of my life. Leave that up to Jehovah.
Great letter! I loved this statement. First the Holy Spirit DOES NOT direct the WTS. And don't take it upon yourselves to judge.
Congratulations, facts!
It is not fair that to do what a person believes in, they must go through this.

new to the site.
have been away from the jw's since 1985. they have a new bible or what?
i remember the nwt not niv.
I had commented before double checking the info in the forward to my NIV. I think, however, it is Not completely word for word, however. Here is a paragraph from Zondervan that might explain where I'm coming from better.
Glad to have you here!!
"Paraphrase help people who are new to the Bible understand it
Literal translations are helpful for people who want to study each word
The NIV is literal where possible and "thought-for-thought" where necessary to help the reader understand
The NIV is the best balance between accuracy and readibility. "
"Translation Philosophy/Format: Balance between word-for-word and thought-for-thought."
(I got this from this site: http://www.zondervanbibles.com/translations.htm)
Also, from the International Bible Society:
THE NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION
Reading Level: Grade 7.8
"The New International Version is a completely new rendering of the original languages done by an international group of more than a hundred scholars. These scholars worked many years and in several committees to produce an excellent thought-for-thought translation in contemporary English for private and public use. ...
"The translators of the New International Version sought to make a version that was midway between a literal rendering (as in the New American Standard Bible) and a free paraphrase (as in The Living Bible). Their goal was to convey in English the thought of the original writers. ... The New Testament of the New International Version was published in 1973, and the entire Bible, in 1978. This version has been phenomenally successful. Millions and millions of readers have adopted the New International Version as their 'Bible.' Since 1987 it has outsold the King James Version, the best-seller for centuries—a remarkable indication of its popularity and acceptance in the Christian community. The New International Version, sponsored by the [International] Bible Society, ... has become a standard version used for private reading and pulpit reading in many English-speaking countries" (Comfort, pp. 79-81).

Sorry about that! I too have met many a Baptist who wouldn't read anything other then a KJV. I think the Niv strives to convey the most accurate thought that the writer had in mind at the time. They strive for a literal word for word, but sometimes it just is not possible to do so, the most important thing was to convey the accurate thought. I think that's what I was trying to say.
Welcome and blessings!
